InterCity Bus or InterCity Coachlines has been running New Zealand’s largest national bus and coach network for more than 30 years. Intercity Coachlines has a fleet of modern eco-friendly buses and coaches boasting of state-of-the-art facilities like foot rests, reclining seats and air conditioning.
InterCity Coachlines have over 150 daily bus services that connect over 600 towns and cities across the length and breadth of New Zealand. There are hardly any town or city in New Zealand that are not accessed by InterCity Coachlines and this makes InterCity a favored bus operator with locals as well as tourists visiting New Zealand.
InterCity Coachlines also operates the famed Starlighter overnight coach service between Wellington, Palmerston North, Taupo, Rotorua, Hamilton and Auckland. This service also connects with the Cook Strait ferry services operating between Wellington and Picton. This service features state-of-the-art facilities like reclining seats with foot and head rests, individual reading lights and air conditioning controls, onboard toilet/washroom facility and it also makes two refreshment and comfort stops on its route.
The InterCity Fare Finder, a fully integrated online fare, seat availability and reservation system from InterCity Coachlines, gives the option to travelers to search online for bus schedules, destinations and seat availability and make reservations.
InterCity Coachlines fares operate on a two fare booking system – Non Refundable and Fully Refundable. The Fully Refundable Fares are divided into the following fare types: Adult (AD), Child (CH), Student (ST), Backpackers (BP) and Golden Age (GA).
InterCity Coachlines offers the following special fares on some of its selected services:
Infants (less than 3 years old)
Infants (less than 3 years old) are free, but the following conditions need to be fulfilled:
Infants must travel with an adult parent or guardian over the age of 18
Infants do not take up a seat (sit on adults lap)
One infant per adult, carried on the lap
Children (3 to 12 years inclusive)
Child fares are available on selected services
Secondary and Tertiary Students
Students receive a discount on standard fares on selected services.
Student discounts do not apply to passes or tours.
Backpacker Fares
Backpackers discounts are available on selected services only.
Golden Age Fares / SuperGold Card holders
Golden Age Fares are available on selected services only
Golden Age Fares are only available for New Zealand Citizen travellers over the age of 60
InterCity Coachlines also offers the very popular Flexi Coach Passes which allows one to travel at his own pace and time on the InterCity Coachlines national transport network. These Flexi Coach Passes allows one to travel on InterCity as well as Newmans bus journeys or on any sightseeing journeys or a combination of both, in any direction and as many times as the hours mentioned on these Flexi Coach Passes. All Flexi Coach Passes are valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue.

Travel Pass gives you 17 'hop on and off' fixed itinerary passes. These are based on the most popular touring routes throughout New Zealand. These passes, valid for 12 months, are arguably one of the best ways to explore New Zealand and discover it like the locals. Flexi Pass is an hours based pass that can be topped up like a pre paid phone card. This gives the traveler the freedom to set his own itinerary and travel and stay, when and where one wants. Flexi Pass also offers a lock in discount on every seat on every service across the country, every day. The more hours, for which one buys the Flexi Pass, the cheaper each trip becomes. These passes are also valid for 12 months.InterCity Coachlines buses can be availed from virtually all cities and towns in North Island and South Island. Transport pass can be purchased, fare and seat availability checked from any of InterCity Coachline’s 400 agents spread across the length and breadth of New Zealand.
