Te Anau

On the brink of New Zealand’s second largest lake, lies the township of Te Anau. Being a significant visitor base for Fiordland National Park, it an important resort town. The Walking Capital of the World, Te Anau is situated at a distance of two hours from Queenstown. It even serves as a doorway to world heritage area and home of Mitre Peak, Fiordland. Town of Te Anau as such does not have much to do, but it is a good place to stay overnight. The town got its name from the surrounding lake, Lake Te Anau. It is situated in the southwestern corner of New Zealand’s South Island. Te Anau is the second largest lake in New Zealand whereas largest in South Island. This vast lagoon is quite renowned for its fresh water volume. It is sited in Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site.
