
Eyre Mountains / Taka Ra Haka Conservation Park is situated at the Southwest of Lake Wakatipu and Southeast of The Mavora Lakes, right between Fiordland and Otago. House to some unique and rare flora and fauna, Taka Ra Haka is managed and conserved by New Zealand's Department of Conservation.
Spread over an area of 65,160 Hectares, this conservation park extends to the southern half of the Eyre Mountains block. Extensive Beech Forests, Snowy Lands and Diverse Alpine Communities pack up to make the spectacular ecology of this extraordinary region.
Taka Ra Haka is a house to majestic high mounts such as Eyre Peak which is 1969 m and Jane Peak at 2022 m.
It's an amazing hunting spot. Travelers can hunt Red Deer, Chamois and Feral Pigs in the woods of Taka Ra Haka.
Plant Life: Mountain Daisies (Celmisia), Mountain Buttercups (Ranunculus), Speargrasses (Aciphylla), Forget-Me-Nots (Myosotis), Hebe & Pimelia Species, Rare Grasses like Sedges and Mistletoe and endangers plant species are tree daisies Olearia Hectorii and Olearia Lineate.
Animal Life: Piwauwau / Rock Wren, Speden's Speargrass Weevil, Ground Beetle Mecodema Chiltoni, Lizard Species - Geckos & Skinks, Native Fishes, Southern Flathead Galaxias and Gollum Galaxias
