Lying as a centerpiece of the Southern Alps, Arthur's Pass National Park is rightly referred as the 'Back Bone' of the New Zealand's South Island. The park was created in the year 1929. It is South Island's First National Park and the Third in New Zealand. It lies amid Canterbury and The West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Earlier the pass used to serve as a passage between the east and west by the Maori hunting parties. In 1864, a surveyor Arthur Dudley Dobson found his way over the pass. The park derived its name from this founder of the route.
Extensive, Shingle-Filled Riverbeds and Huge Beech Forests rule the eastern side of Arthur's Pass Park. West side experiences Wet Weather Conditions. It has deep rivers flowing through dense rainforest. Arthur is a homeland of Snow-Covered Peaks, Glaciers and Slopes.
The most interesting feature of the park is its variability factor. Dry Beech and Tawhai Forest rule in the eastern zone whereas Luxuriant Rainforest lead the western slopes. One can say Arthur's Pass is truly a park of contrasts.
Arthur's Pass is comparatively colder than the other regions of New Zealand owing to its high elevation. In the winters the landscape appears like a dreamland of snow.
You can get to the land of wonders via Train. The Tranzalpine Train offers tour to the park on daily basis. Tranzalpine journey is deemed as one of the world's most wonderful train rides. You can even board a Bus to reach your destination or Drive your way to the majestic and stunning land.
