Where rivers join to meet the sea, starry night seem to bright up your life and tranquil beaches offer spectacular delight; be sure you have landed in the zone of spark. It's the Abel Tasman National Park.
The park derived its name from a Dutch Explorer Abel Tasman. He was the first European explorer to visit New Zealand in 1642. Though Abel Tasman Park is apparently New Zealand's smallest reserve it is perfect for recreation and adventure.
Abel Tasman National Park boasts of its extremely famous coastal walking track. The region experiences mild climate worth visiting all round the year. However, the best time to visit the spot is during summers.
Abel Tasman National Park is located towards the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand. It lies in the Tasman and Nelson Districts of New Zealand. Being the smallest park, Abel Tasman covers an area merely 225.3 Square Km. Motueka is the nearest large town to the reserve situated at a distance of 20 kilometers towards the south.
The reserve comprises forested and mountainous terrain to the north of the valleys of the Takaka and Riwaka Rivers. Golden Bay and Tasman Bay seem to guard the northern end of the park.
Exquisite wildlife is an important feature of the park. Tui and Bellbird fill the wood with melody and shags, Gannets and Little Blue Penguins pep up the lively air of the zone.
To safeguard the beauty of the landscape and enshrine the flora and fauna of the region Department of Conservation took charge of the park. The Scenic Reserve is governed by the Tasman District Council (TDC).
Vehicles are not allowed within the premises of the park. Visitors can stroll through the park or access it via boat. If your budget allows, visitors can charter a helicopter or small plane (Awaroa).
