Whanganui National Park lets you rediscover the charm of lustrous Whanganui River, Volcanic Wilderness and The Adventurous Mountains.
Winding its way from high peaks to the Tasman Sea through Countless hills and valleys, the magnificent Whanganui River reaches the heart of Whanganui National Park. Whanganui Park was established in 1986. It lies as the centerpiece of the North Island. Taumarunui and Whanganui are the two towns which border the park from north and south respectively. Other town like Pipiriki, Ohinepane and Whakahoro serve as major gateways to the river. Whanganui is New Zealand's longest navigable river.
Trip down the river drives you through Beautiful Landscapes, Majestic River Gorges, Extensive Huge Trees, Several Native Birds and Animals. Whanganui River offers an easy access to the park via Jet Boat, Kayak or Canoe. Though it itself is not a part of the protected land.
History and culture of the park play an essential role in the park experience. Historically, the river served as the sole course to the inner and part of Wellington to Auckland 'highway'.
Be it summer or winter, this reserve has everything that it takes to enjoy your best.
