Te Urewera National Park, in the North Island of New Zealand, lies amid Bay Of Plenty and Hawke's Bay. It is spread over an area of about 2,127 Square Km. The reserve area was declared as a National Park on 28 July 1954. Since then it came under the DOC's supervision.
It consists of a wide range of native birds which comprise endangered species like Whio(Blue Duck), Kaka and Kiwi. DOC has come up with several projects to protect the ecology of the reserve.

Traditionally, Te Urewera was a home of the Tuhoe people. Getting to Te Urewera National Park is pretty easy. Transportation is available from the near by towns.
